About Alina Simmelbauer: Alina Simmelbauer (*1981) completed her master’s degree in photography at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle/Saale (2012), within which she studied at the ISA Instituto Superior de Arte Havana in Cuba in 2011. In 2020, she completed the master’s class with Prof. Ute Mahler and Ingo Taubhorn at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. The artist received a scholarship from the DAAD as part of the “Wir träumen allein” project. Her series “García’s Daughter” was supported by the project funding of the Kulturstiftung Thüringen and was shortlisted for the 11th Kassel Dummy Award 2020 and the MACK First Book Award 2021. Her artistic work has been exhibited and honored several times. Her first extensive solo exhibition was shown at Kunstverein Dresden in 2021. She works as a freelance photographer in Berlin and photographs commissioned work for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, ZDFneo, Brand Eins, Die Zeit, Stern, DB Mobil, and others.
