Traditional Gathering

Parallel to the Wiesn, the traditional costume parade takes place in Munich every year on the first Sunday of Oktoberfest. The parade has been held since 1835, with around 9,000 participants from traditional costume associations from Bavaria and all over Germany marching from Maximilianstraße through Munich city centre to the Oktoberfest grounds. On the morning of the parade, all the traditional costume associations gather at the Isar River and wait for the parade to begin. If you get up early, you can stroll through the hustle and bustle of marching bands, brewery teams and flag bearers. The association in the photo, with the white feathers on their hats shining in the backlight, immediately caught my eye.
